A Brahmin lives in a village. He is poor and suffering from great poverty. Despite this poverty, the Brahmin used to milk the snake’s den near his house every day. The snake felt sorry for the Brahmin’s poverty. A Brahmin used to give him a precious diamond for every day he partook. With that, the poverty of the Brahmin was removed. Within some time he became rich. Everyone in the village said that the Brahmin was lucky. One day the Brahmin had to go to another town on work. He called his son and said, “I am going to the village. I have to stay there for a few days on business. So every day you give milk to the snake in this mound. Every day the snake will give you a diamond. Keep it safe at home.” The Brahmin went to the village.

As the father said, the son poured milk into the snake’s womb. The snake gave a diamond. The Brahmin’s son realized that it was because of the snake that they got so much wealth. ‘Every day one diamond is given, how many diamonds are there in the pile? I will get all the diamonds at once’ thought the Brahmin’s son in his mind. He told the villagers without delay. All the villagers were greedy. All of them dug together to get the diamonds. No diamonds were found in the nest and the snake disappeared. Not knowing what to do, all the villagers went away. A Brahmin from the village got to know the matter through his son and was distressed. He searched for the snake for a few days. One day a snake appeared in a different mound.

“Serpent! My son made a mistake. If you come to my house I will build another hut. Please come to my house,” invited the Brahmin. “I am in danger of my life because of your son. Therefore I cannot accept your invitation and come to your house. I am here to inform you of what has happened and leave,” said the snake, leaving the Brahmin forever. The Brahmin was saddened that his son’s ignorance and the greed of the people along with him meant that he had to lose the wealth he used to get from the serpent every day.

A fox lives in a forest cave. One morning it went out on a hunt for food. Meanwhile a hungry lion came that way and saw the cave. The lion went into the cave thinking, “I have been looking since morning and I have not seen a single animal. I can’t be hungry. If there is any animal in this cave, I will harm it and eat it.” After a while the fox came to his den where he found the footprints of the lion. The fox thought to himself, “Looking at these footsteps, the enemies who would do me harm have entered this cave. Now if I go into the cave, I may be in danger. So I should act wisely.” After thinking for a while the fox came up with a good idea. As per the trick, she talked to the cave.

“Oh cave! Why are you silent today. Isn’t that what I talk about every day when I come? What happened to you today?” The fox asked the cave. The lion did not understand what the fox was talking about. “Can caves talk anywhere? But if I don’t talk, the fox won’t come inside the cave. The food that comes to its mouth will go away. We have to act wisely,” thought the lion. Meanwhile the fox said something back. To which the lion replied, “Not so, my friend! Who is more to me than you? Out of the cave?” said the lion.

After hearing the words of the lion, the fox knew that there were people inside the cave who would harm him. The fox, thinking that if he went inside, he would be a victim of the beast, ran without turning back and went to a distant place to save his life. Even the lion, who thought he was the king of the forest, lost the food that came to his mouth due to his lack of intelligence. The fox saved lives with his intelligence.

MORAL : When we are in any dangerous situation, we should not panic, think wisely and save ourselves from that danger.
